“ | Most pilots start their careers in the Sidewinder. It is a classic ship design that has been in use (in various configurations) since 2982. Its original design was as a light support ship and it lacked jump capability. Modern compact drives have enabled jump-capable versions to be created, making this a useful all rounder. Some navies still use these ships as fighters and patrol craft. | „ |

Summary[]
The Sidewinder Mk. I is a small multi-role ship, capable of performing almost any task from combat to trading. Originally designed as a naval scout craft, the new hyperspace capable sidewinder is a versatile ship not to be under-estimated.
Featuring two small hardpoints, two utility mounts, a decent jump range, and superb maneuverability, a sidewinder can be outfitted as a potent combat craft while retaining available space for either a modest cargo hold, or for additional combat equipment such as shield cell banks or frame shift drive interdictors.
When starting out in Elite: Dangerous, a sidewinder is loaned to the player for no cost. Another sidewinder will be loaned to the player should they have their current craft destroyed, and declare bankruptcy. Loaned sidewinders have no value when sold, although there are no limitations on how long they can be used.
